Walden-Parke Preserve
|
Fritz and Caroline Oldenburg and Dennis and Jane Shubert (Walden-Parke LLC) gifted a total of 410 acres of Walden-Parke Preserve to Bangor Land Trust in 205 and 2011; additional acreage totaling 114 acres was acquired in 2020 and 2022. This preserve contains large beaver wetlands and several additional habitat types including hardwood and softwood forests in varying stages of maturity, vernal pools, and a portion of Caribou Bog. Woodland flowers bloom here in the spring, and blackberries can be found in the fall. It is across the old Veazie railroad bed from the City Forest. The well-marked Blue Jay Loop forms an easy-to-walk loop about 2 1/2 miles long, leaving from the cul-de-sac at the end of Tamarack Trail, off Walden Parke Way. Pets on leash are permitted on the Blue Jay Loop only.
