West Penjajawoc Grasslands
Fritz and Caroline Oldenburg gifted this 13.1 acre parcel in 2004. The upland meadow habitat lies adjoins an additional 18.4 acre parcel of upland meadow and emergent wetland habitat donated to Maine Audubon in 2000. Grassland birds in New England are threatened by declining habitat; Bangor Land Trust is happy to provide a safe place for them to nest and raise their young, as well as an excellent bird watching opportunity for Bangor residents and visitors.
This preserve provides valuable habitat for migratory ground nesting birds including the Bobolink and Savannah Sparrow. In order to protect these special birds and their habitat, please refrain from bringing pets on the preserve May 1 through July 21 when the birds and their young are most vulnerable. Pets on leash are permitted July 22 through April 30.
