Quaking Aspen
Populus tremuloides Michx.
West Penjajawoc Grasslands Preserve
Bangor, Maine
Also called Popple. Growing on edge of field - species intolerant of shade. Leaves are alternate and rounded with finely-rounded teeth. The flattened leaf petiole causes the leaves to tremble in the wind which is beautiful to see and hear. Photo by Donne Sinderson
