House Finch
Bangor, Maine
photo from Lucy Quimby
Both House Finch and Purple Finch visit this feeder in Bangor. They are so similar. It's harder to tell the females apart than the males. The keys are a smaller bill and bland face pattern (on the House). The Purple has darker markings (a heavy mustache and dark cheek patch).
