Heart-leaved Aster
Aster cordifolius
The photographer just realized that a shot of the leaf would have really been appropriate here. Well, a wordy description will have to suffice. The leaves are (surprise!) heart-shaped, sharply-toothed and have slender stalks. The greens in the bracts of the flower heads shown in bottom right photo are as beautiful as the flower.
