Summer 2014
Green Heron
Butorides virescens
L 18" WS 26" WT 7 oz
"Green Herons have been nesting in this Bangor wetland for years, but this is the first time I've found them so available and tame. These juveniles have been entertaining the locals on a regular basis lately. A Green Heron, when you first take him out of the box, looks like a bowling ball with chicken legs. But once you wind him up and put a small fish or slimy invertebrate about 2 feet away, you find he has an incredible telescoping neck. They do a slo-mo slink through out the wetland like a monster in a sci-fi movie, searching for prey. Actually, that pretty much describes me, when I'm trying to photograph them." -Ron Logan
