10 July 2014
Fireweed or Great Willow Herb
Epilobium angustifolium
Walden-Parke Preserve
Bangor, Maine
On the Wildflower Walk program with Clare Cole this summer the Fireweed was in full bloom and the bees were collecting pollen from them. There was a great tall (8 foot) patch to the right just a short hike in from the parking area. The approximately one-inch, magenta flowers grow in a long, spike-like raceme.
