Blue Flag
Irus versicolor
West Penjajawoc Grasslands
If you follow the path that is mowed around the field at West Penjajawoc Grasslands, you will notice a difference in the trees and plants that grow at the lower end of the field near the marsh. Down at that lower end there's a small patch of blue flag and they are such a sight to see! This plant grows two to three feet high and, as you can see from the photo to the right, the leaves are tall, slender and sword-like. The flowers are five to seven inches wide and a vibrant shade of purple with yellow and white and veins that run through it all.
