Black-capped Chickadee
Poecile atricapilla Ron Logan Black-capped Chickadees are our state birds that live here year-round. They are small but brave little birds with very distinctive calls that give them their name - chick-a-dee-dee-dee. In the spring they have a song that is more whistle-like and higher -- fee-bee-ee or fee-bee. A girl named Cynthia from Auburn, trained the chickadees that frequent her feeders to eat crushed peanuts from her hand. |
